Vanishing Justice: Exploring AI's Inherent Role in Decision Making
Download Full Paper ↓Abstract
Grounded in the philosophy of responsibility, this research delves into the evolving landscape of accountability, specifically within the realm of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven decisions. By utilizing AI as a case study, the study scrutinizes the transformative dynamics of responsibility and explores the unintended consequences of this conceptual shift on our broader moral framework. Additionally, it investigates the ensuing implications for legal frameworks. The examination of AI-based decisions serves as an illuminating example that highlights a pervasive trend— the metamorphosis of responsibility from an individualistic to a collective paradigm. This shift involves a departure from personal responsibility, giving rise to a system of collective risk mitigation. The reconfiguration of responsibility within our societal fabric raises critical questions about the implications of this transformation. An integral aspect of this investigation is the observed erosion of personal responsibility from our experiential structure. This erosion, in turn, poses a significant challenge to the foundations of justice and law. The diminished capacity for personal responsibility not only alters the ethical landscape but also presents obstacles to the functioning of legal systems. By shedding light on these intricate connections between AI-based decisions, responsibility, and the broader implications for justice, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricate interplay between technology, ethics, and legal frameworks.
